The year is starting to wind down once again, soon I will be twenty! Thats really quite strange to think about. Although, ninteen seems like its been going on for more than a year. But, it was another year of music playing a large role in my life. Probably the highlight was seeing Piebald live for the first time, it MIGHT be the last though, they announced they were breaking up a few months later! But, all was salvaged when they spoke of possibly playing some farewell shows this approaching spring and summer. I'm sure Boston will be on the list a few times as the band formed in the area. Alot of other good to great bands disbanded this year: The Blood Brothers, Hot Rod Circuit, Le Tigre, Spitafield and of course Taco Apocalypse. I suppose it bears mentioning that these bands broke up as well, not my cup of tea but, they were pretty important to SOME at SOME point: Audioslave. Jurassic 5, The Distillers, The Fugees, Hidden In Plain View, Matchbook Romance, Rufio, Pretty Girls Make Graves and Spineshark. What was it that made this year so rough on so many bands?! I'm going to go with the same reason that Piebald is breaking up: they are getting into their late 20's and early 30's. It's time to settle down?
BUT some really great bands reformed this year! Like HOT WATER MUSIC!! The Mighty Mighty Bosstones! And The Verve! (who cares about Rage Against The Machine, Sex Pistols, Van Halen, The Police and Led Zeppelin?!)
My personal favorite albums of 2007
Piebald "Accidental Gentlemen"
The Shins "Wincing The Night Away"
Explosions In The Sky "All Of A Sudden, I Miss Everyone"
The Arcade Fire "Neon Bible"
Laura Veirs "Saltbreakers"
Ryan Adas "Easy Tiger"
Tegan And Sara "The Con"

Animal Collective "Strawberry Jam"
The Weakerthans "Reunion Tour"
Babyshambles "Shotters Nation"
Steel Train "Trampoline"
Say Anything "In Defense Of The Genre"
Saves The Day "Under The Boards"
All in all though, I would say my personal pick for album of the year would be...Animal Collective's "Strawberry Jam." Honorable mentions go to The Shins, Laura Veirs, Bomb The Music Industry! and Steel Train.
Biggest Album Letdowns Of 2007!
Of Montreal "Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?"
The Good, The Bad, and The Queen
Klaxons "Myths Of The Near Future"
Norah Jones "Not Too Late"
Bloc Party "A Weekend In The City"
Fall Out Boy "Infinity Of High"
Bright Eyes "Cassadaga"
Modest Mouse "We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank"
Arctic Monkeys "Favorite Worst Nightmare"
The White Stripes "Icky Thump"
Art Brut "It's A Bit Complicated"
Gogol Bordello "Super Taranta!"
Smashing Pumpkins "Zeitgeist"
The Go! Team "Proof Of Youth"
Foo Fighters "Echos, Silence, Patience, and Grace"
The Hives "Black And White Album"
And the album that was the biggest personal letdown of the year? Woah, thats a tough one. Alot of bands that I thought positive of released less than stellar material this year. I will have to say the biggest letdown was Modest Mouse. Dishonarable mentions go to Arctic Monkeys, Art Brut and The White Stripes.
